How To Get Along With Your Roommates

For anyone, going to college is a big change, especially if your use to having a room to yourself. If this is the case for you, it might be hard to get along with living with a bunch of different guys and girls that you don't know about. Well it is easy to get along with roommates if you know what should be avoided. If you do these three simple things you are sure to survive the year, fight free.

Step One:

Make a list of priorities. Making a list might seem lame, or bossy, but it is the answer to most of your problems. Most roommates fight over cleanliness, even you boys. If you have a list, or a whiteboard, which is better, you can list out everyones name and their duty for the week. Have someone on dishes duty, on trash duty, vacuum duty, and bathroom clean-up. You will be surprised at how much your roommates will pay attention to a whiteboard. It is way easier to yell at someone to do a certain chore, however writing it down for everyone to see is most efficient.

Step Two:

arrange roomie bonding nights. As lame as this may sign this is the secret in not fighting with your roommates. If you have not tried to become friends with your roommates, this is where you went wrong. It is s important to become friends with your roommates because it will make your roommates respect you more. If you have a personal bond with your roommates they are more likely to take better care of your stuff, and their stuff. Go to the movies once a month, or out to dinner with them, they are after all your new family.

Step Three:

Set down ground rules. This really should be at number one because it is the most important. Most of the time you have no idea who your roommate is or what their life was like before you came to college. This is a big change for everyone, so letting your roommate know your sleeping patterns, and study habits are very important. If they are big sleepers, try to do homework outside the room, or hangout in another person's room I you want to be up late. If you respect your roommate chances are you will get respect back. Good luck everyone!
